As-salaamu ‘alaikum!

Over the years I had so many requests to suggest hijab styles for different face shapes, and so I finally decided to dedicate a series of videos to the topic. Even though most Hijab wearers recognise that wearing the hijab is not something one does to “look nice”, it is an inherent part of a lot of women to want to present themselves in a positive way, both on a physical and non-physical level. That’s not to say that if you think hijaab doesn’t “suit” you, that that’s a reason to not wear it. After all, if the root of your intention – to cover up because that’s what our Creator has made fard upon us – is strong and clear, you’ll want to wear it regardless of whether or not you’ve found a style that “suits” your face shape.

To be honest, I was reluctant to talk about this topic because I don’t want to ‘boil down’ the sacred act of adorning hijab to “this is what suits your face”. But I think that to ignore that a lot of women do like to look presentable is to be ignorant to human nature. When I first started wearing hijaab, a tonne of people told me I looked “better without hijaab”. For me, there was no way I would have taken it off for that reason, since I had resolved to never take it off. But, I know that when one is constantly told by society and even one’s own nafs that it’s more flattering to be without hijab, it becomes a huge struggle. So, if these videos encourage sisters who want to wear a hijab style that suites their face shape better (or at least give some tips), then I think that the positives of such a series will, insha’Allah, make it worthwhile to put out there.

This was the first video of the series, in which I explain how to measure up the face in order to work out your face shape:

At the end of the video, I’ve added all of the face shapes I’m going to try to cover in this series, insha’Allah. I later realised I forgot to mention the diamond face shape! Never mind :oP

In the next video, I showed the “Asymmenakin”. Amenakin + Asymmetry = This!

I decided to do a double demo in this video because I figured I’d show how the style looks on 2 face shapes. The style elongates a round face and balances out a heart face shape. I hope that you enjoy watching it :o)

So for today’s post, I wanted to know: how many years have you been wearing the hijab, and what’s your usual hijab style?

Much love

Amena
